Understanding Privatization
Privatization involves handing a government controlled entity over to the private sector. The purpose of privatization is to promote healthy growth through competition. Healthy competition can be a great economic stimulator.
However, there are some things that should not be privatized. Items like safety, infrastructure, and other major city functions should remain accountable to the public. There is a risk by privatizing things that involve the welfare of citizens. Avoiding privatization of these areas such as public safety avoids a greater likelihood of corruption.
